The Portuguese Chess Federation is seeking a highly qualified and experienced National Technical Director (DTN) to lead the strategic technical development of our Chess in Portugal. This role is integrated into a specialized support program by the Olympic Committee of Portugal (COP) aimed at strengthening the technical and strategic capacity of national sports federations.
Key Responsibilities
The National Technical Director will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of the federation's technical-sporting strategy. Key duties include:
- National Teams Organization: Oversight and coordination of all national team departments.
- International Planning: Strategic planning for participation in international competitions and events.
- Performance Training: Developing and implementing specialized training plans for national team athletes.
- Sports Development: Ensuring articulation between grassroots development, agent training, and high-performance goals.
- Team Management: Acting as a lead coordinator/coach for the technical structures within Portugal.
Compensation and Contract
Salary: Approximately €50,000 gross per year (including base salary, holiday/Christmas allowances, meal allowance, and all legal social security/insurance contributions).
Contract Type: Uncertain-term employment contract (contrato de trabalho a termo incerto), valid for the duration of the institutional support program december of 2028.
Regime: Full-time dedication.
The federation will help with all legal matters regarding working permit for residence in Portugal

Candidate Profile (Required Criteria)
In accordance with Article 5 of the COP Regulation, candidates must provide evidence of the following in their Curriculum Vitae:Minimum Mandatory Requirements:
Academic Background: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Sports and Physical Education, Sports Science, Sports Training, Sports Management, or a similar field.
Professional Certification: Holder of a Professional Sports Coach Title (TPTD) Grade III or IV in a discipline overseen by this Federation. (this application can be done by the portuguese Chess Federation with the candidate which will made the application for certification of competence in Portugal, this is done after the selection os the candidate)
FIDE senior trainer or FIDE trainer certification
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience as a technical director, coach, or technical coordinator for federations, regional associations, high-performance centers, or clubs.
Preferred Qualifications (Additional Valuation):
- Proven leadership, planning, and technical management skills.
- Experience implementing strategic plans for technical or athlete development.
- Technical certifications recognized by the relevant International Federation.
- Previous experience as a competitive player ( FIDE titles) or in sports management/leadership roles.
Eligibility and Incompatibilities
Independence: Candidates must not have served in the Federation's governing bodies within the last 24 months.
Conflict of Interest: Candidates cannot be closely related (up to the 3rd degree) to current members of the Federation's governing bodies.
Ethics: The successful candidate must adhere to the principles of integrity, transparency, and the Olympic Charter.
